Calligas Lizzie
Painter, photographer and engraver Lizzie Calligas was born in Athens in 1943. She studied painting and engraving at the Athens School of Fine Arts under D. Kokkinidis and K. Grammatopoulos (1975 – 1980).
In 1982 she participated in the group Engraving exhibition held at the Athens Municipal Art Gallery and in 1983 she held her first solo exhibition of her engravings at the To Trito Mati gallery (The Third Eye). In 1986 she attended Photography classes at the Photokinisi school, and she then turned mainly to photography.
She taught photography at the AKTO Art & Design school (1992 – 1996), took part in the Tribute to Photography at Art Athina 93 and served as a member of the artistic photography committee of the Ministry of Culture (1994 – 1995). She worked as correspondent for European Photography magazine, and, among various solo and group exhibitions in Greece and abroad, in 2005, she represented Greece at the 23rd Alexandria Biennale where she won the Golden Lighthouse award for her work.
