Artemis Melissaratou was born in Brăila, Romania in 1908. Her family comes from Cephalonia. In 1933 she settled permanently in Athens where she studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts under Biskinis, Thomopoulos, Argyros and Parthenis. She then enrolled in a school in Paris where she studied Advertising.
She held her first solo exhibition in 1962 in Athens (Nees Morfes art gallery) and then in 1970 in New York (Galerie Internationale). She took part in group exhibitions in Greece, Belgium, France, Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, Spain, Luxembourg, Sweden and the USA and also participated in the Pan-Hellenic Exhibitions of 1948, 1963 and 1975. Artemis Melissaratou died in 2002. Posthumously, two retrospective exhibitions of her work were held at Zygos art gallery (2005 and 2007).
