Grispos Nikitas

Nikitas Gryspos was born in Amorgos in 1873. In 1888 he came to Athens, where he studied painting at the School of Arts (today’s Athens School of Fine Arts) between 1890 and 1897 under Sp. Prosalentis, Nikiforos Lytras and K. Volanakis.

He settled in Syros where he worked as a professor. In 1917 he settled in Piraeus where he opened an art workshop and also worked as a photographer. He also taught at the practical Lyceum (1920 – 1940) and at the painting school of Volos.

His works were presented for the first time in 1921 in a solo exhibition held at the Volos Club, and then in the group exhibition Panthessalian held at the Ferentinos Club in Volos in 1922. He took part in the Pan-Hellenic exhibitions of 1939, 1948, 1952, 1960, 1963, 1967, 1971 and 1973 and retrospective exhibitions of his works were held in 1973 at Parnassos Literary Society and in 1978 at the Zeringa Gallery. He died in Athens in 1974. He was a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece.
