Charbouri Isabella

Painter and engraver Isabella Charbouri was born in India in 1905. She took her first engraving lessons under T. Notton (1937 – 1945) and D. Giannoukakis (1942) and then studied under Dimitris Galanis in Paris. In 1952 she studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst under H. Hofmann in Graz, Austria.

She took part in the Pan-Hellenic Exhibitions held at the Zappeion Mansion in 1948 and in 1952, 1957, 1960, 1963, 1965, 1967, 1969, 1971, 1973, and 1975. She also participated in several international engraving exhibitions, including those held in Stockholm (1947), Paris (1949), Cairo (1949) and Alexandria (1951) where she won the gold prize for book illustration. She also took part in the Sao Paulo Biennale (1961) and the Alexandria Biennale (1963). Isabella Charbouri died in Athens in 1988. She was a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece and the Werkbund of Graz.
