Strapatsaki Marianna
Marianna Strapatsaki was born in Athens in 1947. She studied Interior Design at the Athens Technological Organization on a scholarship and went on to receive a five-year scholarship by the Academy of Athens to study painting and drawing in Paris, at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts (1969) and at the École du Louvre (1974).
In 1973, she received the “Mention d’Honneur” in Nice for her participation in the “IX Grand Prix de peinture de la Côte d’Azur”. After a short stay in Greece, in 1979 she returned to Paris and graduated from the Sorbonne University with a Diploma in Plastic Arts. She has taken part in several group exhibitions and has held dozens of solo exhibitions (in Greece, France, England, Germany, Italy, Turkey and Chile), Moreover, she has repeatedly received honorary invitations to present her work, both in Greece and abroad and has been commissioned for important art projects (B. and E. Goulandris Foundation, Hellenic Ministry of Culture for the “1994 Hellenic presidency of the Council of the European Union”, Roma Tre University for the XVI International Conference “Cinema & Energia” which was held in Rome, participation in the 26th festival Les Instants Vidéo as part of Marseille European Cultural Capital 2013 in France, etc.).
She is a founding member and President of the Department of Audio and Visual Arts, Ionian University (Corfu), where she served as a professor for a decade and contributed greatly to its development. Marianna Strapatsaki has also received awards for her artistic interventions in Banks and Railway Stations of Athens, and more than once she has served as a member of art juries, both in Greece and abroad.
