Ιnterviews

The artist's cell

Vassilis Galanis

Artist

In this documentary film series we aim to present the work of contemporary artists working in Greece, spanning a wide gamut as regards their age, their methods and the media they use.
Our intention is for this presentation to be accomplished mainly through the artists’ own words, in a way that enables them to communicate their work as they see understand it, rather than in a strict academic “interview” format. It is also paramount to let their work speak for itself, which is why we have decided to shoot in the artists’ studio or working spaces, so that their completed or as yet unfinished works can become a testament to their style.
We think that art should not just be the subject of an art-loving elite, or of patrons, but rather should be available to the whole of society and a much, much wider audience.

Vasilis Galanis he is a graduate of Visual and Applied Arts Department, School of Fine Arts A.U.TH.
“My oeuvre is an attempt to re-interpret the traditional genre of landscape painting, both in western and eastern art tradition. It consists of natural spaces, brimming with anomalies and paradoxes. Time is often presented frozen and ambiguous; aspects of the prehistoric period are combined with post-apocalyptic imagery.” Vasilis Galanis
