Engraver and painter Akis (Apostolos) Peirounidis, was born in 1948 in Xanthi. He studied painting and engraving at the Athens School of Fine Arts (1968 – 1972) under N. Nikolaou and K. Grammatopoulos. He also studied in England on a scholarship by the State Scholarships Foundation (I.K.Y.) at the Chelsea School of Art (1977 – 1978).
He presented his work in solo and group exhibitions in Greece and abroad and participated in international events, including the Baden-Baden Engraving Biennale (1981), the Fredrikstad Biennale (1982 and 1986) where he was presented with the “Biennale Prize Norsk International Graphic” award, the Bradford Biennale (1984), the Ljubljana Biennale (1987), the Maastricht Biennale (1992), etc.
He served as an expert scientist at the Athens School of Fine Arts in the 2nd Engraving workshop (1984 – 1991) and in 1992 he founded a silkscreen printing workshop at the Athens School of Fine Arts, where he taught as Associate Professor until 2016. Akis Peirounidis died in 2017 in Athens. He was a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece.
