Giannis Velegrakis was born in 1973 in Heraklion, Crete. He obtained a degree in Photography in 1997 from the Aerial Photography Centre of the Hellenic Air Force and then studied at the First Professional Training Institute of Heraklion (2000 – 2002) at the department of “Photographic Laboratory Technician”.
He has presented his work in solo and group exhibitions in Athens and Crete, including, in 2013, the group exhibition of the Association of Professional Photographers of the prefecture of Heraklion. On several occasions he has received distinctions and awards for his works (1st Colour Photography Award at the 9th Pan-Hellenic Photography Competition held at the Culture Club of Florina in 2002, and 2nd Colour Photography Award and 3rd Black and White Photography Award at the Cultural Competitions organized by the Municipality of Heraklion, Crete).
He is a member of the Pan-Hellenic Federation of Photographers (Π.Ο.Φ.) and the Association of Professional Photographers & Cameramen of Crete (Σ.Ε.Φ.Ε.Κ).
