Katsoulidis Takis

Takis Katsoulidis was born in Messini in 1933. He studied painting and engraving at the Athens School of Fine Arts (1952 – 1958) under Yiannis Moralis and Jean Kefalinos and continued his studies on a scholarship granted by the State Scholarships Foundation (I.K.Y.) at the École des Beaux-arts in Paris (1962 – 1966) under M. Cami and E. Clairin. He also specialized in book art at the École Estienne. From 1971 – 1976 he was the director of the Doxiadis School of Decoration.

In 1978, he was elected professor of the School of Graphic Arts of the Technological Educational Institute of Athens. From 1986 to 1988, he worked as artistic advisor at the graphic arts enterprise Aspioti – ELKA. As part of research programs of the Technological Educational Institute of Athens, he designed two new Greek alphabets for photocomposition (AGFA “Apollonia” and “Katsoulidis”) and ten Greek alphabets in total. He also produced Cypriot and Greek stamps, designed tapestries, edited and illustrated books and published texts, books and albums with his prints. He has presented his paintings and engravings in solo exhibitions in Greece and abroad and has taken part in several international events, Biennales and International exhibitions where he received awards and distinctions (1st engraving award at the Pan-Hellenic Youth Exhibition in 1961, lithography awards at the École des Beaux-arts in Paris in 1964 and 1965, Medal at the International Painting Exhibition in Ostend in 1976, Biography Award for the book “Papamichalis” published by the editorial Livanis in 2001, Award of the Academy of Athens for his overall contribution to the arts in 2008, the “GREEK GRAPHIC DESIGN & ILLUSTRATION AWARD” by the Greek Graphic Designers’ Association for his contribution to Graphic Arts and Typography in 2010).

In 2002, the Municipality of Messini founded the “Takis Katsoulidis Engraving Museum” which hosts 200 engravings and 20 paintings which were donated by the artist. He is a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece.
