Papaioannou Liana

Liana Papaioannou was born in Athens in 1941. She studied engraving at the Athens School of Fine Arts (1963 – 1967) under K. Grammatopoulos and after her graduation she became an assistant at the Athens School of Fine Arts in the Engraving workshop (1968 – 1975).

In 1977, she was granted a scholarship by the Ford Foundation and continued her studies in lithography at the Tamarind Institute in New Mexico, USA. She has presented her work in numerous solo exhibitions in various cities in Greece, as well as in Cyprus, Italy and Spain.

She has participated in the Pan-Hellenic exhibitions (1965, 1967, 1969, 1987), in group exhibitions of painting and engraving in the USA, in Europe and in Russia, and in international events, including the International Exhibition in Rome (1963, 1964), the Paris Biennales (1969), the Ljubljana Biennale (1969), the Frechen Biennale in Germany (1974), the Miami Biennale in the USA (1974, 1975), the Varna Biennale (1985), the Intergrafik in Berlin (1985) etc.

She has been honoured twice in the international engraving competition in Spain for her participation in the category of colour woodcut. She is a member of the Greek Printmaker’s Association and of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece.
