Santorinaios Nikolaos

Nikolaos Santorinaios was born in Xylokastro in 1889. He attended painting classes in the workshop of Georgios Iakovidis and Nikiforos Lytras and sculpture in the workshop of Georgios Vroutos, at the School of Arts (today’s Athens School of Fine Arts). He travelled to Egypt and returned to Greece in 1910.

He took part in many Pan-Hellenic exhibitions from 1938 onwards, in international events, such as the Sao Paulo Biennale (1960), and between 1960 and 1963 he participated in the International Exhibitions in Serbia, Romania and Russia. He taught in secondary education and also worked as an icon painter. He died in Athens in 1966. In 1986 a large retrospective exhibition of his work was held at the Athens Municipal Art Gallery.
