The Art Collection of the Heraklion Municipal Art Gallery is being enriched with new donations. Following the listing, documentation and digitisation of the collection, renowned artists have expressed their desire to have their works included in it.
Thus, in the last year we have received donations from artists whose works have been hosted in St Mark’s Basilica. We would like to extend our warmest thanks to them for their offer.
In particular, we have already received:
- Maria Tzani, daughter of Dimitris Tzanis, painter. Donation of the painting “…then came the refugees” [year: 2008, dimensions: 140 X 100, genre: painting, technique: acrylic on canvas] by her father. The painting was included in the exhibition “Εν Ηρακλείω τη…”, held at the Basilica of Saint Mark (3-15 March 2008).
- Kostis Moudatsos, donation to the Heraklion Municipal Art Gallery of the painting“The blame is his who chooses” [year: 2019, dimensions: 100 X 140, technique: oil on canvas]. The painting was included in the collection exhibited at the Heraklion Municipal Art Gallery/Basilica of Saint Mark (January 2020).
- Konstantinos Dim. Pagomenos, donation to the Heraklion Municipal Art Gallery of the sculpture “MEMORY SKY” [year: 2012, dimensions: 166 X 61 X 30 cm]. The sculpture was included in the exhibition “Artists on the Old Town of Rethymnon” which was held at the Basilica of Agios Fragiskos (St. Frances) in Rethymnon.
- Giannis Zacharakis, donation of the painting “Pourgonero” [year: 2017, dimensions: 70 X 150, technique: oil on cloth]. The painting was included in the exhibition “Edges of the South” held at the Heraklion Municipal Art Gallery/Basilica of Saint Mark (11-26 October 2019).
- Konstantinos Perakis, donation to the Heraklion Municipal Art Gallery of the painting “Untitled” [year: 2019, dimensions: 90 X 100, technique: mixed media, acrylic – photography]. The painting was included in the exhibition “Man: Wanderer on a Controversial Route” held at the Heraklion Municipal Art Gallery/Basilica of Saint Mark (6 September-15 October 2021).
- Tsakountis Michail, donation to the Heraklion Municipal Art Gallery of the painting “Saint Minas” [year: 2021, dimensions: 150 X 100, genre: painting, technique: oil on canvas]. The painting was included in the exhibition “Stigmata” held at the Heraklion Municipal Art Gallery/Basilica of Saint Mark in 2022.
- Minas Kampitakis, donation to the Heraklion Municipal Art Gallery of the painting “Trunk of Life” [year: 2013, dimensions: 70 X 70, genre: painting, technique: acrylic on canvas].
- Sarah Kafatou, donation to the Heraklion Municipal Art Gallery of the painting “Table is set” [year: 2019, dimensions: 60 X 70, technique: oil on canvas]. The painting was included in the exhibition “Heraklion and its people: through the eyes of my soul” held at the Basilica of Saint Mark (3-15 February 2020).
- Messinis Panagiotis, donation to the Heraklion Municipal Art Gallery of the painting “III HORSE” [dimensions: 100 X 70, technique: acrylic on canvas]. The painting formed part of the painting collection of Efstratios Athinaios whose works where exhibited at the Heraklion Municipal Art Gallery/Basilica of Saint Mark (9-19 December 2019).
