George Varlamos was born in 1922 in Paros. He studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts under Umv. Argyros and K. Parthenis and engraving under Jean Kefalinos (1942 – 1947). In the 1950s he studied painting in Paris on a scholarship at the École des Beaux-arts (1951 – 1952), and engraving at the College Technique Estienne (1958 – 1961) where he specialized in book art and stamp engraving.

Following his return, he worked next to Jean Kefalinos (contributing to the publication of the album Ten White Lekythoi), he edited and illustrated books and produced posters on social issues.

He took part in several group exhibitions and international events (Geneva in 1955, Lugano in 1958, the Alexandria Biennale and the Sao Paulo Biennale in 1963, etc.), and was honoured for his overall contribution to the arts by the Academy of Athens, in 1995. George Varlamos died in Athens in 2013. He was a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece.
