GRAVVALOS PANAGIOTIS

Panagiotis Gravvalos was born in Lamia in 1933 and studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts under Sp. Papaloukas and Yiannis Moralis. Following his graduation in 1956, he collaborated with the engraver Tassos and turned to Graphic and Applied Arts. He taught Engraving at the Athens Technological Organisation from 1961 to 1967 and for almost 30 years (since 1966) he was a collaborator of the Hellenic Post as regards the design of stamps, for which he was distinguished and awarded.

He was among the founding members of the Centre for Visual Arts (KET) and in addition to his solo exhibitions (Zygos art gallery 1964, Nees Morfes art gallery 1974, 1979, 1983, 1988, French Institute 1981, etc.), he took part in all exhibitions of the Group for Communication and Education in Art, of the Contemporary Art Association, of the Engraving Group, in Pan-Hellenic exhibitions, in many Engraving Biennials and he also worked as editor and illustrator of books.

He published articles on the aesthetics of stamps and served as artistic advisor to the Ionian Bank. From 2003 onwards he was president of the “Alekos Kontopoulos” art gallery in Lamia. He passed away in 2015.
