ANGELOPOULOS GIORGOS

Painter and engraver Giorgos Angelopoulos was born in Athens in 1925. He studied engraving under Jean Kefalinos and painting with Andreas Georgiadis at the Athens School of Fine Arts (1947 – 1952). Following his graduation he worked with Kefalinos for three years and specialized in the engraving of banknotes and stamps.

From 1965 to 1988 he worked as an engraver at the National Mint (Bank of Greece) and he also promoted the copperplate stamp in Greece. He has presented his work in several group exhibitions, including many Pan-Hellenic Exhibitions from 1957 onwards and he also took part in the Alexandria Biennale in 1967.

He has also worked as a book illustrator and has written articles that have been published in newspapers and magazines. He is a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece and a regular member of the Advisory Council of the Hellenic Post (since 1976).
