Giannis Chalampalakis was born in Archangelos, province of Pediada, Crete in 1947. He studied architecture in Florence and has taught architecture at the University of Florence and the University of Genoa. He has also designed archaeological sites at the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion.

He is a self-taught painter and has presented his work in solo and group exhibitions in Greece and Italy.
