Ιnterviews

The artist's cell

Maria Filopoulou

Visual Artists

In this documentary film series we aim to present the work of contemporary artists working in Greece, spanning a wide gamut as regards their age, their methods and the media they use.
Our intention is for this presentation to be accomplished mainly through the artists’ own words, in a way that enables them to communicate their work as they see understand it, rather than in a strict academic “interview” format. It is also paramount to let their work speak for itself, which is why we have decided to shoot in the artists’ studio or working spaces, so that their completed or as yet unfinished works can become a testament to their style.
We think that art should not just be the subject of an art-loving elite, or of patrons, but rather should be available to the whole of society and a much, much wider audience.

Maria Filopoulou born in 1964 in Athens. She studied painting in Paris at the Ecole nationale supérieure des beaux-arts under Leonardo Cremonini, during the period 1984-1988. Continued with postgraduate studies at the same school, with a scholarship of the French Government, during the period 1988-1989 (lithography under Αbraham Hadad).
Her works are to be found in the National Gallery, in the Greek Parliament, and in private museums and collections in Greece and abroad.
